Background on Thermage®

Dr. Stout was one of the first doctors to use the Eyes by Thermage™ system to correct tired, drooping eyelids. In addition to rejuvenating the face, Thermage® is also very effective in improving the appearance of the eyes without surgery. In just one procedure, Thermage stimulates the production of collagen over the course for 6 months, restoring youth and energy to your appearance without the pain or discomfort of a surgical procedure.

Thermage is FDA approved for the non-invasive treatment of wrinkles and can be used anywhere on the face, including the forehead, eyes, “smile lines,” jaw lines, jowls, and area under your chin. Thermage works on all skin types and tones, making it safe and effective for all patients.

How does Thermage work?
Thermage works to naturally restore skin to its younger appearance by heating the collagen fibers deep inside the tissue, while simultaneously protecting the skin’s surface with a cooling spray.  These two opposing actions cause the skin to immediately tighten, initiating the production of new collagen under the surface of the skin. The result is younger-looking, rejuvenated skin with less visible fine lines and wrinkles.

When will I see results after my Thermage procedure?
Results after a single Thermage procedure are both immediate and gradual. While a visible tightening occurs immediately after one procedure, patients should expect to see improvements over the following 6 months. Dr. Stout recommends a “follow-up” procedure after those initial 6 months to touch up the treatment area in order to ensure that the results are even longer lasting.

Where can Thermage be performed?
As an oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Stout performs Thermage treatments on the face, eyes, neck and lip regions, though it can also be used on the stomach, arms, hands, thighs and buttocks.  Since Dr. Stout is a specialized surgeon, he prefers to focus his treatments on his areas of expertise.

Is the Thermage procedure safe?
Thermage has an excellent safety record; over 450,000 procedures have been performed worldwide and the incidence of reported side effects is less than 0.2%. The most common side effects are redness and swelling, and these usually resolve within a few days.

What is the recovery after a Thermage procedure like?
One of the most wonderful advantages of non-invasive procedures like Thermage is that recovery time is short, especially when compared to surgical techniques. With little trauma to the treatment area, most patients experience little to no discomfort after the procedure and can return to work immediately.
