Intense Pulsed Light (known as IPL or PhotoFacial™) is an advanced laser treatment used to correct sun damage and eliminate redness and rosacea on the skin of your face, neck and chest. Approved in 1995 for the treatment of these symptoms, Dr. Stout has been performing IPL procedures on patients for years and has witnessed how successfully IPL reduces age spots and sun spots as well as minimizes uneven complexions. IPL reduces the appearance of wrinkles, one of the main results of skin damage, through a non-invasive, laser technology conveniently performed in the privacy of Dr. Stout’s office.
Excellent for treating complexion problems caused by sun damage and rosacea, IPL diminishes the signs of aging by significantly reducing redness, the appearance of skin discoloration, and broken blood vessels, while stimulating the production of collagen. The treatment itself is non-surgical, convenient, and generally requires no downtime. In the experienced hands of Dr. Stout, IPL is an effective instrument against facial vascular disorders and skin that has been aged by the sun.
Your IPL/Photofacial™ Appointment
Patients should expect to be at the office approximately 45 minutes, and arrive with a clean face. Though IPL treatments aren’t painful, patients do have options such as skin-cooling technology, topical anesthetic and/or cold compresses to make their experience more pleasant.
After treatment, patients may experience some redness of the skin or very mild swelling which can last from 1 hour up to 24 hours. It is recommended that patients reduce exposure to the sun during treatment sessions and wear SPF 30 or greater sunscreen when going outside.
Dr. Stout recommends three to five IPL treatments for the most improvement of sun damaged and aged skin. These treatments are typically scheduled approximately three weeks apart, and patients should come in every 6 months for a maintenance treatment to ensure the longest lasting results.
