The Fraxel® laser is the most advanced treatment for acne scars and skin rejuvenation to date. It is also excellent for treating sun damage, pigmented lesions like age spots or sun spots, skin discolorations, and wrinkles around the eyes.
The Fraxel® laser is distinguished by its ability to create microthermal zones — small but deep columns of treatment — while leaving surrounding skin unaffected. The laser stimulates the creation of new collagen — under acne scars, for example — producing positive long-term changes. Treatments take about an hour each and are most effective when repeated three to five times, spaced a few weeks apart. Topical anesthetic cream will be used to enhance your comfort during the procedure.
Designed to minimize down time and potential complications, the Fraxel® laser is gentle enough to use on the back, neck, and chest, as well as the face. While it is expected that your skin will be pink for three to five days after treatment, you can use camouflaging makeup. The Fraxel® laser creates less downtime than other laser skin resurfacing methods.
If you have sun damage, acne scars, or a combination of both, IPL PhotoFacial™ and laser skin resurfacing using the Fraxel® laser are both worth discussing with Dr. Stout. To learn more about these treatments, contact our office in Los Angeles today.
In the past, the wrinkles, creases, and discoloration of the skin brought on by sun were viewed as irreversible signs of aging. Today, laser skin resurfacing can correct the damages caused by weather and age to renew your youthful, energetic appearance. Dr. Stout uses a state-of-the-art laser to reduce facial lines, discoloring, and scars. The areas around the mouth and eyes are quick to show sun damage and wrinkles and are therefore popular areas for laser skin resurfacing, but the procedure can be used to treat any area, large or small.
The laser skin resurfacing process works by vaporizing the top layer of dull, damaged, and discolored skin, then removing it. The heat of the laser helps tighten the collagen bundles in your skin, improving the texture and elasticity of your skin. In general, laser skin resurfacing creates little to no pain, though Dr. Stout administers a local anesthetic in conjunction with a sedative for the comfort of his patients.
After undergoing laser skin resurfacing, patients are typically able to resume normal activities during these two weeks. Patients often experience some pinkness in the face for about two weeks after laser skin resurfacing. This pinkness resembles a sunburn, but carries none of the discomfort. For the first week, patients may use lotion on their face and after two weeks, makeup may be applied.
Some people feel self-conscious during this time and choose to postpone their normal activities; in the past, some have complained of boredom. However, many patients have also found this to be a perfect time to catch up on paperwork or other household projects.
Intense Pulsed Light (known as IPL, or PhotoFacial™) was approved by the FDA in 1995 to treat the redness of rosacea and reduce the symptoms of sun damage. During your treatment at our Pasadena facility, Dr. Stout uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to reverse sun damage and eliminate redness and rosacea of the skin on your face, neck, or chest. Additionally, the PhotoFacial IPL has been proven to fade age spots and sunspots as well as minimize uneven pigmentation.
At our Los Angeles laser center, IPL PhotoFacial™ rejuvenation treatment consists of three to five gentle light pulse treatments that improve the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin. The pulsed light covers many wavelengths, allowing it to penetrate deep into the skin without burning the surface, which will be protected by a cooling gel.
PhotoFacial™ offers excellent treatment for redness, flushing, and blushing caused by rosacea. A progressive vascular disorder that affects the skin and eyes, rosacea often causes a permanent blushing or flushed complexion. Patients with this condition have blood vessels that are overly dilated, resulting in excessive facial blushing, acne blemishes, inflammation, and broken capillaries and broken blood vessels.
Though many rosacea patients mistake their symptoms for skin that is merely sensitive or sunburned, rosacea is a medical condition. It is crucial not to delay getting treatment! The National Rosacea Society reports that, when left untreated, the chronic redness of rosacea becomes more permanent and tiny blood vessels may enlarge and become visible. Cysts and acne often develop and in advanced cases, especially in men, the nose may become bumpy, red and swollen from excess tissue. In some individuals, the eyes may feel gritty and appear watery or bloodshot.
Fortunately, PhotoFacial™ is an effective treatment for this condition. At his Pasadena office, Dr. Stout will treat patients with rosacea through a series of intense pulsed light (IPL) PhotoFacial™ treatments that have been proven to eliminate redness and uneven complexions.
Many of the major skin problems that show up in adulthood, such as fine lines, blotchiness, age spots (liver spots, dark spots), surface roughness, wrinkles, and dull, lifeless skin, can be attributed to sun exposure. The damage can be substantially reduced through a series of IPL PhotoFacial™ treatments — particularly useful in the sunny Los Angeles climate. Sun damage may extend to your neck, chest, hands, or the rest of the body, and these areas can also be treated by PhotoFacial™.
PhotoFacial ™ is excellent in treating complexion problems caused by sun damage — which is the main source of wrinkles — as well as rosacea, a frustrating progressive disorder that, in the past, lacked any effective treatments.
PhotoFacial™ diminishes the signs of aging, significantly reduces redness, fades brown spots and sun damage, evens out skin discoloration, and reduces broken blood vessels while stimulating the production of collagen. PhotoFacial™ treatments improve and even out the skin’s complexion, leaving you with a beautiful, youthful glow.
These IPL PhotoFacial™ treatments are non-surgical, convenient, and generally create no downtime. IPL PhotoFacial™ rejuvenation at our Pasadena surgical center offers a customized approach for each individual’s needs and complexion. In the experienced hands of Dr. Stout, intense pulsed light is an effective instrument against facial vascular disorders and skin that has been aged by the sun.
