Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, eyelift surgery, or eyelid rejuvenation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed today. It is an outpatient procedure to correct the appearance of droopy or puffy eyelids (upper blepharoplasty), under eye bags (lower blepharoplasty), or both (upper and lower blepharoplasty).

The delicate skin around the eye area is often one of the first places that the signs of aging begin to appear due to many factors including aging, heredity, gravity, sun exposure, and smoking. Cosmetic eyelid procedures result in a refreshed and rested appearance.

Dr. Stout utilizes the most advanced techniques when performing cosmetic laser eyelid surgery—blepharoplasty performed through an incision made by a laser beam as opposed to a traditional scalpel. This technique automatically seals the blood vessels, so the patient experiences less bleeding and the surgeon can more easily monitor the progress of the surgery. In addition, this precise method of forming the incision creates less trauma to the eye area, paving the way for much less discomfort and bruising as well as a quicker recovery.

Upper Blepharoplasty

On many people, excess skin gathers on the eyelid as they age, causing a hood to form, which may even begin to cover the eyelashes. This creates an older, perpetually tired appearance. Upper blepharoplasty removes this excess skin with an incision along the natural crease of the eye, hiding the tiny scars so they are almost imperceptible. Upper blepharoplasty can be performed on its own or in conjunction with a lower blepharoplasty.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty is performed to eliminate under eye bags and puffiness. Dr. Stout is one of the pioneers in the technique of fat repositioning, meaning that he redistributes the fatty deposits below the eye to create a natural, smooth surface rather than removing all of the fat, which can leave a patient with an overly hollowed look. Lower blepharoplasty can be performed on its own or in conjunction with an upper blepharoplasty.
