Eyelid Rejuvenation Asian Double Eyelid Surgery Asian double eyelid surgery is the most requested surgical procedure among Asian populations in both Asia and America. About half of those of Asian heritage have a low but defined upper eyelid crease, while the other half have a "single eyelid," meaning no crease, or a vaguely defined one. It is this latter group that contacts Dr. Stout interested in double eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). The majority of those interested are in their 30’s or younger and a growing number of them are men. A defined upper-eyelid crease makes the eye appear bigger, a universal, not solely Western, sign of youth and beauty. Indeed, a defined eyelid crease, such as that created by double eyelid surgery, has long been valued. The desire to enhance the eyelid crease does not necessarily mean the desire to "Westernize" one’s appearance. As in the case for all cosmetic surgeries, reasons for this procedure are varied and individual. Before surgery, Dr. Stout will discuss your options for the style and height of the eyelid crease to determine what best suits your features. The procedure will involve Dr. Stout altering the anatomical structures of the upper eyelid to form a natural-looking crease that, in most cases, gracefully tapers toward the nose. This procedures makes the eyes appear bigger and more open, and can simplify the application of makeup. It’s important that your goals for double eyelid surgery remain
realistic, as the results of the surgery depend on your innate anatomical
characteristics. An overly high crease looks unnatural and takes
longer to heal; in most cases, the most natural-looking crease is
low (two to three millimeters above the lashes) and is tapered toward
the epicanthal fold (the crescent of tissue overlapping the nasal
corner of the eye). However, some women request a slightly higher
crease to aid in the application of makeup. The shape and position
of your new eyelid crease will be chosen based on what will look
the most natural given your facial features.
